Dear Customers,
I’m not a great fan of Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Women’s day or any other Contrived Day. We are adopted into God’s family and as children of God, with transformed hearts, we should treat mother, father, women, neighbour, granny, child etc. very well Every Day. So on this Women’s day, I wish to pay tribute to my husband, who has supported me for nearly 40 years, so that I can be the woman God intended me to be.
Not only does he put up with my hours at home in front of my laptop, but he supports the work in many ways: he sees to the printer when I don’t have time to figure the silly machine out; he posts parcels on Saturday mornings when I have to work; he changes the bulbs and fixes old collapsing desk drawers; he is my Mr Fix-it generally, but specifically my sounding board and the voice of reason when my emotions supersedes logic. So, on this Women’s day, I say that we should all give thanks to the Lord, for designing the family – the perfect support system we need to serve him well.

New children’s books:
I was given some more children’s books as samples; this time some board books. Once again, I allowed my 2-year-old granddaughter to test-drive them. She enjoyed the furry friend books, but only in passing. She loved the slide & play board books, but those were also forgotten when she discovered the water doodle books. When the pages are painted with water, the colours come up and reveal a detailed picture. She loved those. When the page dries, the colours disappear, and you can start again. Each time she comes to our house, she wants to paint the pages again. Yesterday she saw that the water tub was empty. She went into the kitchen and fished out my folding step, figured out how to unfold it, stood back from the sink to assess where the tap was, placed the step accordingly, climbed up and realised that she still couldn’t reach the tap. At this point she turned round and appealed for help. Lots of fun!

Joe Thorn titles:
At a recent conference, we heard Joe Thorn as one of the guest speakers – a great encouragement to hear him put the Word of God and books about the Word of God in their rightful places. Joe has written five books. For two of them, the deal was buy-one-get-one -free and I will pass on the same deal to you. But I can’t do that yet as the free books haven’t arrived yet. More about those in the next newsletter. The three that are now in stock (all paperback; R65 each):
- The Heart of the Church The Character of the Church, The Gospel’s History Message and Meaning. What is the confession of a true and biblical church? The Heart of the Church answers with the gospel. 112pp
- The Character of the Church, The Marks of God’s Obedient People. Dispels confusion by describing the five elements of a biblical church 131pp
- The Life of the Church, The Table, Pulpit and Square. Answers this critical question: “Why does the church exist, and how does it shape my life?”112pp.
Available at Good Neighbours now; available at Augustine on Tuesday.
