Dear Customers
Wishing you all a fruitful, faith-growing year ahead.
“Finance is a gun. Politics is knowing when to pull the trigger.”
~ Mario Puzo ~
According to the above quote, our politicians need some weapons training! Towards the end of last year we stocked up big time. The UK books arrived just before the Rand took a bad dip, but we paid dearly for the US books. I was about to make payment for all the US stock when I heard about the market response to the firing of the finance minister. I held off for a week and the Rand did recover, but not nearly enough. I was spitting feathers over the whole affair as we are directly and badly affected. It took me a while to calm down and I had to keep reminding myself that vengeance belongs to the Lord.
Calming down is a process, not an event. I tell myself that the Lord is sovereign and in control of all things; it’s not by accident that we have this president and this government. Problem solved after the self-chat? No. I hear something else about this issue on the radio and I want to lash out again. There is part of my anger that is a righteous anger – it is wrong that political bad decisions result in major suffering and loss. There is nothing wrong with being indignant that our prices are higher as a result of foul politicking. But part of my anger was wicked. That part that wants to lash out and seek revenge is motivated by a desire to be in control. I don’t want to hike prices because of factors beyond my control.
I thank God for bad politics that make me aware of all the wicked anger inside me that still needs to be dealt with. The Lord will take care of our government in his own right time, but because I am his, he will take care of me immediately. Forgiveness is granted when sought and the Spirit enables me to control my anger and frustration instead of trying to control prices. I’m sure there are many other importers with the same lament and there are others who are affected more seriously than we are. In our case, I feel particularly sorry for the students whose texts are now horribly expensive. It irks me that we have to charge more for the same book, but whatever the price, you are buying treasures that contain the truth. These books are meat for the soul and that’s priceless!
RHB stock-up: We have brought in virtually every title that Reformation Heritage Books publish. We have left only a few very expensive titles as order-on-demand titles, but most of their titles are now available from us. There are so many new books that I don’t know which to bring to your attention! We also have many beautiful Puritan works from RHB and Soli Deo Gloria (distributed by RHB). All these are featured on our web site, but as there are so many new titles, it will take a while to load all the pictures and book info. Meanwhile you can visit the RHB web site for book info and ours for local prices.
Yours in the Lord’s service
