Description
BRIAN H EDWARDS & CLIVE ANDERSON
Treasure that is not jewels, bandits’ gold, mysterious writing and dead bodies all wrapped up helps us to understand the world of the Old Testament. Here you can see the fantastic Pharaohs, the horrible pictures of the Assyrians, the elegant drinking vessels of the Persians, and the son of a king who conquered the world. With puzzles to solve, pictures to colour and items to find, this book will give you an understanding about a world that has passed but is living in front of your face!
Clive Anderson and Brian H Edwards are authors with widely ranging interests in history, theology and contemporary events. They have written other books also published by Day One. In particular, they are the authors of Through the British Museum—with the Bible.
This book is a good twin to Romans, Gladiators and Games, by the same authors. It covers many Bible stories children will know well and points out where artifices mentioned in the Bible can be found in the museum. It shows how to do hieroglyphics and how bodies were mummified in Egypt, little boys will love that bit. There are plenty of things to do and make at home as well as at the museum, where there are many things to look for. At home you can make a model of a mummy and turn a box into a coffin to put it in to, among many other things. Included is a recipe for a Middle Eastern drink which looks tasty.
I think that there is plenty in this book which would deepen the children s knowledge of Bible events and also keep them happily engaged for hours with the activities and crafts. GoodBookStall Review – Barbara Stoneham – 17/06/09
