Description

Brown hardcover edition.

The Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia is an edition of the Masoretic Text of the Hebrew Bible as preserved in the Leningrad Codex, and supplemented by masoretic and text-critical notes.

Have you taken a Hebrew class but forgotten most of what you learned? Are you a pastor who wants to incorporate regular study of the original languages into your preaching and teaching, but your Hebrew is rusty? Are you a scholar who needs a quick reference for research purposes? The BHS Reader’s Edition is an invaluable language reference tool and a trusted companion for students, pastors, and scholars who wish to read the text of the Hebrew Bible.

This work utilizes the standard scholarly edition of the Hebrew Bible that is the basis for nearly every major Bible translation, the Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia. In addition, this text has been checked against, and notes all differences between, the BHS and the Leningrad Codex.

Reading is facilitated by providing the definitions of every Hebrew and Aramaic word, either in the glossary or in the apparatus. Strong verbs, nouns, and adjectives that occur less than 70 times are parsed and defined. Infinitives, imperatives, and all weak verb forms are parsed. Unlike other reference works that give the same definition for a given word whenever it appears – the BHS Reader’s Edition provides the definition of the word according to the context of the Scripture passage in which it is found.

The BHS: A Reader´s Edition main features include:

  • Complete text of the Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia, checked against the Leningrad Codex
  • All words that occur less than 70 times are parsed and defined in the apparatus
  • Glossary listing of all other words
  • Improved layout of poetic texts
  • All weak verb forms are parsed
