Carol Hamrin grew up in the Black Hills of South Dakota, granddaughter of immigrants and pioneers. While at St. Olaf College, she studied and traveled in Asia and then pursued graduate work at Yale and the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Hamrin’s depth of expertise on China comes from twenty-five years as a senior research specialist at the U. S. State Department. Carol lives in Virginia, where she consults and writes on China’s nonprofit sector, society and culture as a research professor at George Mason University and a senior associate with the Global China Center.
